Margaret Walker Center
Reimagining the Margaret Walker Center at JSU
Jackson, MS
The Margaret Walker Center initiated a feasibility study and planning project with a $450,000 Mellon Foundation grant.
NEOO Partners, led by a Jackson State alumnus, was selected to conduct the study, which involved community engagement, building design concepts, and cost analysis. A steering committee, including MWC staff, provided guidance and feedback. Responsibilities included project support, decision-making, issue resolution, scope approval, and monitoring.
During a six-month design phase, the MWC Advisory Committee reviewed architectural designs and layouts to ensure alignment with the center’s values and objectives. Stakeholders, including Jackson State University students, staff, and faculty, were engaged through presentations, campus canvassing, and surveys. Feedback was collected on proposed improvements, resulting in valuable insights for the center’s design and operations. NEOO Partners collaborated with architects to develop and realize the center's design concept.
